Guidelines for Chapter Project Managers

Project Management

During the course of this term and other future terms, Lakeshore Chapter Project Managers will manage a number of chapter initiatives. These guidelines aim to provide key aspects of project management that need be managed.


Each project manager will be responsible for the following:

Team Management

  • providing the project team an overview of the project, its timelines, and deliverables (the project team will comprise of Board Directors, Volunteers and other key personnel as and when required)
  • conducting team meetings (these meetings may be conducted over the phone, via e-mail or at the PM's home or at a mutually convenient location)
  • coaching and mentoring the team to achieve its objectives
  • working with team members in a fair and responsible manner and maintaining PMI's ethics and code of conduct

Scope/Deliverable Management

  • ensuring the scope of the project is managed and all deliverables identified in the scope are developed
  • identifying any dependencies that may delay the completion of the project and that any new deliverables identified during the course of the project will be deemed to be part of the next phase unless it is absolutely essential
  • filing all completed deliverables (documents only) on the chapter's intranet document repository in the appropriate folder
  • presenting and getting approval from the board for final implementation

Schedule Management

  • ensuring the timelines set in the plan are maintained as far as possible
  • identifying any delays to the overall project and identifying resolutions to correct them

Cost Management

  • ensuring that the project is implemented with the planned budget

Issues Management

  • identifying any issues technical, financial or other within the project and identifying resolutions to correct them
  • identifying any dependencies or impacts from or to other projects and notifying the other project managers and the Board as soon as possible.

Status Reporting

  • communicating to the team the project progress on on-going basis
  • providing a monthly status to the Board on the project's progress

Note: The "% work complete" will be updated every month - on the Project Information page - to notify the membership of the progress.
