Presentation Abstract

Toronto Pearson International Airport is Canada’s busiest airport and ranks as one of the busiest 30 airports in the world. It handles more than 1,200 arrivals and departures every day. The airport is managed and operated by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.

By the year 2020, the number of travelers passing through the airport is expected to reach 50 million and in order to meet the growing air travel needs of the region, the GTAA has undertaken a 10-year, $4.4 billion Airport Development Program the cornerstone of which is the construction of a new terminal which will replace two of the three existing terminals.

This presentation will relate how, during the course of this Airport Development Program, IT&T evolved into a major service delivery agent for the organization as well as becoming a party to all executive management and decision making.

Speaker - Derek Hyman

Derek Hyman has over twenty-five years of Information Technology project management experience.

He developed his customer focused project management skills while working for Information Technology service providers including Computel Systems and Canada Systems Group.

In 1986, he formed Premium Technology Inc. to provide project management consulting and training services.

Through the successful delivery of over thirty large-scale projects for clients in the Airline, Airport, Banking, Insurance, Software and Telecomm industries he has proved that project management skills are portable and can be successfully applied to any project regardless of the industry or technology involved.

In 1993, he introduced the Strategic Project Management program, a training program for organizations wishing to increase their project management success rates. Since its introduction, over 2,000 project managers have taken this program.

In his most recent assignment for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Derek established and managed an IT&T Project Management Office to direct the procurement and implementation of critical IT systems required to operate the new Terminal One.
