Project Objectives

  1. Complete stakeholder analysis to establish and prioritize the needs for the community.

  2. Prepare the framework, approach and templates for developing and maintaining a strategic plan. This would also include templates/tools for managing projects on an ongoing basis.

  3. Prepare a 1 year, 3 year and 5 year strategic plan to manage the growth for all aspects of the Eva Rothwell Centre. This document will also provide the information required to obtaining funding for future projects.

  4. Provide the Robert Land Community Association (RLCA) with the processes and tools needed to sustain current operations and manage the upcoming growth through the utilization of the existing PMI Lakeshore Chapter's volunteer list.

Background - Robert Land Community Association

The Robert Land Community Association (RLCA) is a non-profit charitable community organization which is home to an ever-growing number of programs and services that are helping to improve the quality of life and enhance social wellbeing for an entire North Hamilton neighbourhood. Known as the Keith Neighbourhood, according to 2001 Census data, this is a part of the city with:

  • The highest percentage of families living at or below the poverty line
  • The highest percentage of single parent families
  • The lowest average household income
  • One of the highest crime rates

Committed to tackling poverty in the Keith Neighbourhood, the RLCA purchased a school building in 2006 and have since turned it into a thriving community centre called the Eva Rothwell Resource Centre. Working in line with Hamilton's Roundtable for Poverty Reduction, the centre's approach is to work towards prevention, not just alleviation of poverty by addressing education, housing, health care, recreation and basic necessities of life (food, clothing, furniture). The RCLA is helping to develop a safe and healthy community for children and youth. www.robertland.org
